SERVPRO - Remediating Water Damage To Raleigh Kitchens
Despite the Falls and B. Everett Lakes, plus various creeks and more nearby, most Raleigh residents deal with water problems from causes like failing dishwashers and broken water heaters. Even smaller amounts of water from these items can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars in repair and replacement.
Common types of water damage to Raleigh homes after either appliance failure are in the kitchen. SERVPRO restoration teams train to restore linoleum and sub-floors when possible and replace them when needed.
When water damage remains too long on linoleum, it can cause the glue holding it in place to loosen, forming pockets of air and water. For small air pockets, team members can press them flat again using a flooring roller. For larger pockets, they carefully make a tiny pinhole, then use the roller to slowly squeeze out the air and force the vinyl back into place. Once the affected area is flat again, specialists seal the pinhole with vinyl glue. The process is similar to water pockets or bubbles except that specialists make a pinhole in each one to drain the water, regardless of size.
If they are unable to press the linoleum back in place with the flooring roller, SERVPRO specialists can, at the owner’s direction, cut away the affected section and replace it. They can also lift and dispose of the entire vinyl floor if needed, then replace it with new linoleum.
In homes where the water soaked into the floor while the family was away on vacation, it can damage the sub-floor support structure. Team members can dry these areas using air movers, and make repairs such as replacing several 2x4s. If the floor is severely compromised, the team leader recommends the homeowner bring in a general contractor for repairs.
